Join us for our virtual event this month as we look at how anime can be used as a learning tool in the classroom. Our special speaker is Emilie Waggoner (Director of First-Year Experiences and lecturer at the University of Denver). She will be talking about how educators can use anime in there classrooms and how you can include different fandoms in the classroom. After the main presentation by Emilie there will be a conversation about additional ways to use anime/manga to engage students both inside and outside of the classroom between Emilie and resident geek Julia Bilderback (Assistant Registrar at CCD and Chief Geek of Geeked Colorado). Then if time allows we could do a question and answer session.
In order to take part in the event you must register through the Fan Meetups site.
Emilie Waggoner works at the University of Colorado Denver as the First-Year Experience Associate Director. She also teaches in the First-Year Experience program in a variety of courses, including a course on analyzing anime characters through a sociological lens. Emilie’s research interests are around analyzing anime characters’ development through a student development theory lens, as well as the development of the fans of these characters. Emilie received her bachelors in journalism and her masters in higher education and student affairs leadership from the University of Northern Colorado and is graduating with her masters in management and organizational leadership in Fall 2021 from the University of Colorado Denver. In her spare time, Emilie can be found watching anime, getting anime tattoos, and running half-marathons in Colorado.
